John Murray, London, 1845, 184pp. bound in recent half red calf, 'Journal of a Residence Among the Negroes in the West Indies' by Matthew Gregory Lewis, published in 1845. Lewis owned a considerable property in Jamaica. 'Philip Musgrave; or, Memoirs of a Church of England Missionary in the North American Colonies' edited by Reverend J Abbott, published in 1846. This work is a collection of vaguely fictionalized thoughts and anecdotes about his time in the North-American colonies as a missionary for the Church of England. Matthew Lewis was a novelist best known for his Gothic novel 'The Monk'. Joseph Abbott was a Church of England clergyman and author, who was also well known for his work 'Memoranda of a Settler in Lower Canada. Very good. Item #147
