The fore-edge painting is of a great Victorian street scene, probably of London. The detail is incredible- one of the finest fore-edge paintings seen. The more the painting is fanned out, the more detail is revealed. The shop in the street is of 'Alex Young House and Sign Painting'. U.K. directories in the early 1800s have been searched in hope of finding a record of this business, but it has so far not been located. An exceptional example of a large detailed fore-edge painting. A nice copy of the famous notes by Mant, Anglican Bishop of Down and Connor. Very Good. Item #19
