Cosway Style Binding bound in full crushed marron levant for Chas J. Sawyer London by Sangorski and Sutcliffe with their S&S stamp on the rear doublure.
A beautiful binding with the Cosway on the inside of the front boardset in green levant panel doublure and green silk ends, very fine practically invisible repair to the front joint. Internally clean and bright.
A wonderful example of a Sangorski, Cosway style binding.
First edition thus, with a "Life of Oliver Goldsmith" by Rev. John Mitford. The Aldine Poet Series was a 20-year project that involved printing new editions of classic British poets from Chaucer through to the 19th Century. They were published in 53 volumes during the years 1830-1844. Pickering secured John Mitford and Alexander Dyce as editors with Sir Harris Nicolas, so that the series would be of a high standard.
