Original green cloth binding with title, author, vol., and publisher in guilt on spine, top and bottom of which have gilt decoration. Corners of both volumes are rubbed and bumped with some loss of cloth. Bookplate of Swedish book collector, Thorne Virgin, on front pastedowns dated 1911. Thorne’s ink signature, place and date (London 29-4-1910) of purchase (?) on verso of front free end paper of both volumes. Inner hinges strengthened. Volumes come enclosed in slip case.

Scare second issue of this classic work. The first use of the word ‘evolution’ appeared in the Descent.. (Freeman, 937; G&M 227; Casey Wood, p.310). very Good. Item #27
