Hardcover. 246pp. 5.75" x 8.5". Bound in red-orange cloth covers with stamped gilt lettering and ruling to the spine. There is light rubbing to the exterior. The binding is solid. The text block is adorned with deckled edges. The front endpaper is a map showing the location of the Kurile Isles. The frontispiece depicts a Japanese fisherman. The pages show mild age toning and scattered light foxing. The work includes numerous photographic plates from Bergman's travels. This is the first English translation of this work, signed by the author and dated 1936 on the front flyleaf. From the preface: "This book contains an account of my experiences and impressions in the course of a visit to the Kurile Islands, the chief purpose of which was to add something to our knowledge of the birds and animals of that region, and to bring back specimens of them for the Natural History section of the Stockholm National Museum." Sten Bergman (20 October 1895- 19 February 1975) was a Swedish zoologist, who visited Korea, Kamchatka, Papua New Guinea, and many other places. Very Good. Item #281
