Unclipped dust jacket illustrated by Garth Williams. Decorated boards in orange and green title design, with illustrations of title character. Illustrated endpapers in teal and white design. Stuart Little was the first of many children's books written by E.B. White, as well as the first children's book illustrated by Garth Williams. The story is grounded primarily in reality, save for the fact that its title character is an anthropomortphic mouse, born into a human family. White's classic tale follows Stuart and his small stature through the trials, pitfalls and dangers of being a small mouse in a big world.
E.B White (1899-1985) was an American author, best known for his work at the New Yorker and as author of such loved children's tales as Charlotte's Web. "Mr. White finds writing difficult and bad for one's health but he keeps at it even so. He would like, more than anything. to be a poet. The poets, he thinks, are the great ones. He began Stuart Little in the hope of amusing a six-year-old niece of his, but before he finished it she had grown up and was reading Hemingway" Very Good / Good. Item #340
