First edition. 8vo. with a half-title, and eight pages of advertisements at the end. A fine copy in the original olive-green bevelled cloth, and spine lettered gilt, Browning of the first and last leaves from the free end papers. Previous owner's bookplate on front paste-down. Inspired by Goethe's 'West-Oestlicher Divan', the poem is important as a fairly direct statement of Browning's mature religious beliefs. He did not pretend that Ferishtah was anything more than a transparent disguise for himself. Fine. Item #57
